Paul: Ahhh! That would do it! I was thinking "car carrier" as in those skeletal trucks that carry 8-10 cars to auto dealers, not a box on the roof for a dog.
(A quick Google shows that most people take "car carrier" to be a thing that carries cars; perhaps this is a Toles-ism.)
